That's a good question. There are a lot of great churches in the York area. In fact, let me say from the very beginning—if you are part of a God-honoring church, stay there! A new church isn't an opportunity to leave an old church behind. In fact, even if you have a problem with your current church, we recommend talking to your pastor or leaders about the issue before you consider joining us. There are some reasons when leaving a church is OK, but if the theology is good and you and your family are being encouraged to grow in your faith then, really, stay there. Fight for your church. Pray for your church. Serve in your church.
And yet even with all of that said, we know there are things that make us consider leaving one church for another. In our case, we're starting a new church after becoming increasingly frustrated with the direction of our former denomination. Our local church had wonderful people but the direction of the denomination was not something with which we could agree. We're not against anybody. We're for people—all people—and want them to know the love and power of Jesus Christ. We don't pretend to be perfect or 'holier than thou', but we do sincerely hope to reach our community with the message of Jesus. As a part of that, we look forward to growing together through worship, Bible study, and service opportunities.
If you've never been to church or talking about the love and power of Jesus seems strange, then I simply ask that you give us a chance to talk. Come to a worship gathering or let me treat you to coffee!
There's also a lot about Riverstone that, honestly, we don't know yet. That's part of the beauty of being a new church, we all get to see what God does with Riverstone, together, from the very beginning.
More information will be forthcoming but, for now, plan to join us in worship on Sundays at 9:30AM. We'll be meeting in the lunch room at Garrod Hydraulics (1050 Locust Point Rd) just outside of Manchester and conveniently located near Interstate 83. Wear what you want—during these warmer months we suggest something you'd wear to a church picnic. Our worship will be simple but sincere as we get started. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out and let me know!
Blessings,
Dave Hummel, Pastor
